Steelhead Lager Teams Up with Pacific Salmon Foundation to Restore Vital Steelhead Habitats Across B.C.

Steelhead Lager is proud to support the Pacific Salmon Foundation and its efforts to restore salmon and steelhead populations across British Columbia. With a portion of the proceeds from every can of Steelhead Lager pledged to PSF over the past year, we are delighted to make our contribution to their important work this month. Steelhead Lager’s contribution can help fill funding needs for two large-scale projects that will give struggling steelhead populations a helping hand.

One of these projects is getting underway in the Muchalat River in Gold River on Vancouver Island, a vital system for steelhead and threatened Chinook. The watershed has been substantially depleted by increased flows due to historical logging practices and the effects of climate change. With donor support, PSF is advancing game-changing work led by local champions to bring back lost spawning grounds by installing gravel and restoring protective riparian zones in a suitable area of the Muchalat Lake outlet with the aim to save and restore these species for generations to come.

Similarly, in B.C.’s Interior, PSF is supporting major restoration of valuable freshwater habitat in the Deadman River near Kamloops. Thanks to valuable funding, partners at the Skeetchestn Indian Band are working to restore native cottonwood forests at three key sites along the river. This revitalization will support stream health by preventing erosion, improving water quality, and providing critical shade and shelter in the arid landscape for dozens of species—including steelhead.
